As second generation blockies, my dad Lance, and his brother Leonard, did it tough, but had a great sense of living in the moment after sunset.
It was the pre-TV era and people gathered a lot and joked, talked and played cards. I have surprisingly many memories at uncle Leonard’s house with my cousins.
Having a bath under the stars, climbing trees and making cubbies.
I cannot remember a dull time at Leonard and Shirley’s. Uncle Leonard always had a Dean Martin twinkle in his eye, and was always good for a joke or a tickle. He had a particularly good reflexes to tickle your knees!
In a world where there are less children there are less uncles like Leonard, and less cousins! Maybe we were not living it tough, but actually living the good life!
