Passed away peacefully in Merbein, aged 86 years. Dearly loved and devoted wife of Neil (dec) and Syd (dec). Much loved mother and mother-in-law of Garry (dec) and Raelene Johns; Peter and Kaylene Johns; Malcolm Johns and Terina. Cherished grandma and great grandma.
She was a loved and respected stepmother, stepmother-in-law and much loved by their families.
Our sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff at Chaffey House, Merbein for the care and kindness shown to Maxine and our families at this difficult time.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at the Nichols Point Cemetery, Lawn 1, Cemetery Road, Nichols Point on Tuesday September 1, 2026 at 10.30am.

Aunty Max you have always been a special part of our family. You married Nola’s twin brother, who she saved from almost drowning at Mildura Lock in their young life, and had three boys. The first one, Garry being born on my birthday, two years later!
You, Uncle Neil, Garry, Peter and Malcolm were always a special part of our lives, as was Grandma Winifred (Foreman) and Grandpa Hugh Johns.
I remember visiting your parents’ house, with you too. Mr & Mrs Stonehouse were always welcoming and interesting. You were always laughing and smiling and talking about family.
You sat with Nola Traeger (nee Johns), together with Lynley and I for a couple of days before she passed. I remember with tears in my eyes that it was about 7.30pm one October evening, after a few hours with us, that you said, Maybe she’s waiting for me to leave…and you said your goodbyes! 15 mins later Nola passed peacefully with Lynley and I at her side. I was amazed at your insight and wisdom.
You always showed up and could turn your hand to anything you chose or that life sent your way! It presented challenges and to your credit, you somehow made it work and made it look easy. People looked to you for practical sensible guidance.
You loved Uncle Neil from the time you set eyes on him, and vice versa. You were a dedicated mother to your three sons, and I feel for them and the extended family today.
And later to Syd Knudsen, who you got to do some travelling ‘around the countryside’ with.
You’ll soon be reunited with your beloved and all the family who’ve gone on before you, and are waiting for you.
