Dad, I can’t believe you are gone. Little did I know the last time we talked that it would be our last time. Why is it only now I think about all the things I wanted to say and ask.
Give Mum a hug for me, I’ll miss you…………

  • Keith and Denise Lock

In 1967 I was a new member of the RAAF Reserve at Brighton. There I met and became lifelong friends with Doug Lay and Geoff Palfreman, and that Easter they took me with them to Mildura to introduce me to your family – and there began two more lifelong friendships as I met your parents. Barrie and Barbara welcomed me in to your Etiwanda Avenue home with traditional Mansell hospitality.

Over the years I got to know Barrie not just as the loving family man that he was, but also got to experience the wonderful work that he did for the Air Training Corps. He was a natural leader and and a true gentle man, and was loved and respected by his colleagues and by the young cadets who were lucky enough to have been mentored by him.

Unfortunately, Denise and I are unable to attend Barrie’s send off but the thoughts will be with you and the family on the day.

Barrie was an exceptional member of the Air Training Corps and his legacy, hard work and commitment to youth development lives on. I had the absolute pleasure of having working with him during my formative years in the AIRTC.

May he rest in eternal peace
