Hello to the McNamara family. I have only read in the Sunraysia Daily about the passing of your beloved Des. What a wonderful friend to my father Bill Lawrence he was. I will always remember the two of them being as thick as thieves on the cricket field in annual Rotary club match- always playing pranks on the opposition players. A particular favourite was sticking the bails onto the stumps with chewing gum so they never fell off. I also recall Des arriving at our house late one Winter’s night dressed in white shorts and white t-shirt and thongs ready to watch the Test cricket from England with my Dad. Much to our delight, from his esky he produced a home made roll out white picket fence which he placed across our lounge room floor. My mother was in hysterics! And that kind of sums up Des for me- he always made us all laugh. And we loved him for that. I think for my Dad, he was such a great friend because with Des he could tap into his mischievous side which was usually so well hidden under his doctor’s hat! And to see them both laughing and having fun was always so wonderful. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. Regards. Elizabeth Lawrence
