11-May-1934 - 15-Aug-2026 (92 years)
Passed away peacefully at Arcare Surrey Hills (Melbourne) with family at her bedside. Dearly loved and loving wife of Christopher (dec). Loving mother and mother-in-law of Michael & Ann, Margaret & Peter, Geraldine & Marc and Bernard & Maureen. Much loved grandmother (NeeNee) of Lauren, Ronan, Kiernan, Braeden, Callum, Jonathan, Chloe, Daniel, Matthew and proud great grandmother of Matilda, Darcy and Patrick.
Irene's passing is the end of an era; she was the last surviving sibling of that generation of the Riverina's prominent Braidie family; she will be greatly missed.
Family and friends of Irene are respectfully informed that her Requiem Mass will be conducted at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 20 Box St Merbein, on Monday August 31, 2026 at 10.00am. The cortege will proceed to the Merbein Lawn Cemetery.

All the O’Malley cousins are in my thoughts as you honour your mother’s life (our Aunty Irene), the last sibling in our parent’s generation. Maybe next time we gaze at the night sky, we can think of Aunty Irene, now reunited with Uncle Chris, her brothers and sisters, and take comfort by remembering that well-known Inuit proverb: “Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy”. Rest easy, Aunty Irene.
