With hat off and head bowed I pay my respects, my appreciation, my love to a man who valued all three of these attributes. Thank you Jeffrey for teaching us all the value of community and the potential for the human spirit to soldier on when, at times, the body is less willing. Most of all though I give thanks to one of the more important lessons that Jeff was able to provide, a sense of joy, a sense of humour, in the ridiculousness of it all. What a wonderful gift to give.

Sending both my apologies for not being there today and my heartfelt love for the Vallender clan.

Dear Alice, our thoughts are with you and the family. You and Jeffrey have been very special to us since we met in 1975 Although our times together in these last few years have been sparse the memories from times gone by are precious, full laughs and good times, mainly because Jeffrey and his ‘special humour’ made everything we did fun and memorable. We are with you in spirit today and our love goes to you all as we farewell Jeffrey.
