  • John Culleton

    Dear Marg and family,

I am sorry that Covid restrictions prevent me from being in Mildura to say farewell to Col.

It was my privilege to have been in the trenches with Col defending the interests of irrigators for quite a while, but not nearly for as long as him.

Col’s service to the irrigation industry was marked by his selflessness, pragmatism, decency and good humour. His legacy will stand the test of time and the NSW Rice Industry is indebted to him.

Thank you for sharing Col with us for such a long period and for the unstinting love and care you gave him during his illness.

    with deepest sympathy,

    John Culleton
Chair, Rice Marketing Board for the State of New South Wales

  • Western Murray Irrigation Ltd

Col served the irrigation industry and his community, passionately advocating for their best interests.

Col worked tirelessly from the 1980’s to 2014 representing NSW Murray high security irrigators.

In 1995 Western Murray Irrigation Ltd was formed as a result of the NSW Government’s privatisation process and Col became a founding Director, serving on the Board until his retirement in 2014.

Col was also a foundation member of the NSW South West Water Users and Chair of the National Irrigators Council (2008-2012), amongst many other positions.

In 2015 Col was awarded an Order of Australia medal (OAM) for services to environmental water management and the community.

Western Murray Irrigation, together with NSW South West Water Users, would like to pay tribute to Col Thomson’s leadership and his unwavering dedication to his irrigation community.

Our condolences to Marg and family.
