Julie had such an influence on me as an educator. I will always look back on my Reading Recovery days with appreciation that I had the opportunity to learn from such a knowledgeable empathetic and kind leader. Julie was always able to lead positive conversations yet make you think hard with her penetrating questions. She did so much to build understanding of reading locally, nationally and worldwide for parents and teachers. My sympathy to Brian and her family.

Dear Brian
We were greatly saddened by the news of Julie’s recent passing. Such an amazing, clever person.
I was so lucky to be able to work with Julie both in California and back home. I valued her knowledge but even more so her friendship.
She was a very big personality with a heart of gold. I still remember Julie telling me that Reading Recovery Tutors had to have ‘an iron hand in a velvet glove’. I learned a great deal from Julie, and I am sure everyone who worked with her would say the same.
Our hearts go out to you Brian. We wish you well and hope our paths cross again in the future.

So sad to hear of Julie’s passing. She was an inspirational leader in Education. Her bright and bubbly personality and enthusiasm for her teaching was infectious. I feel privileged to have known her.
